Frank McBee and some other researchers in the DRL found Tracor.
Basic is introduced and Moore's Law is coined. The ENS building is completed and Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) is created. Research at the ARL contributes to the development of geodetic positioning systems, the underwater acoustics used in modern oceanography, and improved methods of data management, data analysis, and signal processing.
First optical fiber is developed.
Email is introduced.
Dr. James Truchard, Bill Nowlin, and Jeff Kodosky—all researchers at ARL—launch National Instruments.
