About ECE

Welcome

Dr. TewfikUT's ECE department, a top-ranked department, is the largest department in the Cockrell School of Engineering with almost 2000 students, 70 full-time faculty and 20 part-time faculty. Our outstanding faculty bring state-of-the-art research, development, and design experience into the classroom, ensuring that our students and alumni are amongst the best in their fields and that our research advances the scientific community as well as society and business.

Our full time graduate program offers 11 research areas with top researchers across a wide variety of research topics. With over 600 graduate students, we boast the top students of today and the brightest researchers of tomorrow.

The department has a proactive student body that organizes itself with several student societies—HKN, IEEE, IEEE Computer Society/Power Society/Communications Society, Students Without Borders, and Women in ECE. Our staff is second to none and work extremely hard to ensure that faculty and students have necessary and sufficient access to required equipment, facilities, and advising resources to meet their varied academic needs.

UT ECE has developed programs and outreach to address critical issues in education. Program areas focus on the STEM (Science, Technology, Math, Engineering) challenge, at-risk students, underrepresented populations, and study abroad experiences.

UT ECE recently opened an industrial relations office to assist industry in various areas of need, to facilitate industry/academic partnerships, and to provide a focused point of resources and contact for industry. We are actively involved with industry interests by building partnerships around research, recruitment and continuing education, including a weekend master's degree programs in Software Engineering, Circuit Design, Engineering Management coursework and an upcoming distance M.S. degree program. We welcome industry visitors and invite industry to contact us with their areas of interest in UT ECE.

Over the next year, UT ECE will be developing a web community for our alumni and reaching out to engage alumni on many levels. If you are an UT ECE graduate and would like to learn how to connect to UT ECE and/or have input into the UT ECE alumni program, please let us know.

We are proud of our accomplishments in research, education, programs and engagement, yet we are always working toward more advances ahead. We invite you to join us in your areas of particular interest!
