Bostick, Francis

Biography:

Dr. Bostick's involvement in electrical geophysical research traces back to his days as a graduate student at UT-Austin. Electrical geophysics studies the interaction of electromagnetic fields with the earth and its surrounding atmosphere. Measuring these field's characteristics at the earth's surface and from boreholes yields valuable information about the earth's interior structure. Dr. Bostick and his graduate students built equipment to acquire electromagnetic data and performed numerous field surveys with this equipment in various parts of the world. They process the data seeking hydrocarbon reserves, mineral deposits, geothermal energy sites and subsurface aquifers. His group holds a number of survey method and data acquisition equipment patents. The most challenging electrical geophysics problems concern estimating the subsurface structure from the measured data. Leading edge research in this area requires a strong background in electromagnetics, and modern data analysis and processing techniques.

Dr. Bostick has won the Chancellor's Council Outstanding Teaching Award, Engineering Foundation Faculty Award, and is a member of the Academy of Distinguished Teachers.
