Biography:
R. Gary Daniels joined the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department in 1999 as an Adjunct Assistant Professor. He received his BSEE degree from the University of New Mexico and did graduate work at Arizona State University. Daniels worked for Sandia National Labs for 6 years. He was employed by Motorola Semiconductor for 32 years, retiring as Senior VP and General Manager of the Microcontroller Division. He was a consultant for Silicon Laboratories 2003-2005. Since 1999, he has served as a member of the Board of Directors for National Instruments. He was a member of the State of Texas Advisory Committee on Research Programs 2000-2004. He is a member of the IEEE and ASEE professional societies.
Daniels' list of industry awards include: 12 U.S. Patents, over 25 Technical papers, Motorola Global Effectiveness Award of Excellence and the Dan Noble Fellow award (Motorola’s highest technical recognition). He is the “father” of the 6805 family of microcontrollers (~ 4 billion units shipped).
Academically, his list of awards include: UNM Outstanding Alumnus 1990 & 1997, Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers 2002, 2005 & 2006, UT Women in Engineering Advocate Award 2003, UT College of Engineering Corporate Champion Award 2003, UT Engineering Students with Disabilities Appreciation Award 2004. Daniels was named an ECE Fellow by UT in 2008.
