Biography:

Dr. Walser's teaching and research explores the science and engineering of electronic materials and devices. His students contributed significantly to optical. magnetic, and electronic thin film development. They also invented and patented several novel materials and devices, including the pyromagnetic radiation detector and a widely used class of microwave materials known as thin film magnetodielectrics. Recent research focuses on thin film and device structure synthesis, and characterization for a variety of applications including integrated thin film recording heads and optical films for "smart solar windows". Related research is conducted in the high dose ion implantation and in the silicon solid phase epitaxy fields. Dr. Walser also participates in technology transfer, including the startup of three corporate ventures. He founded Ardex, Inc. a subsidiary of Alcoa, in Austin in 1984 and served as CEO and chief scientist until 1989.
