Challenges in Cyberphysical Systems

We present a brief historical account of paths leading to the present interest in cyberphysical systems. We follow this up with an account of several foundational research topics that underlie this area. These include issues in data fusion, real-time communication, clock synchronization, security, middleware, hybrid systems and proofs of correctness.
