Step 2 - Complete ApplyTexas online
ApplyTexas is the form The University requires of all applicants for graduate school. The Graduate and International Admissions Center (GIAC) receives the ApplyTexas forms and sends the information to UT-ECE.
To complete ApplyTexas, you will need
- Statement of Purpose, an essay describing your reasons for pursuing graduate study and your academic and professional interests and goals.
- Information on three individuals who will write Letters of Reference(1) for you, including their name, position, and email address.
In the "Biographical Information" section, ApplyTexas asks for your "First Choice Major." UT-ECE uses the term "Academic Track," which you selected in Step 1. So, if your primary interest is Integrated Circuits & Systems, select "ECE-Integrated Circuits & Systems." If your academic track is Computer Architecture & Embedded Processors, please select "ECE-Computer Engineering" as your "First Choice Major."
In the "Educational Background and Test Score Information" section, ApplyTexas asks for your "specific area of interest or specialty within your proposed major." This is the same as your "First Choice Major," e.g. "ECE-Integrated Circuits & Systems."
In 1-2 business days you will receive via email your University of Texas Electronic Identifier (UTEID) and password. You will need them to complete the ECE Graduate Application.

Notes:
(1) Letters of Reference - The section on recommendation letters comes after Employment History and before Honors and Awards. It is very important that you do not skip this section. After you submit the names and e-mail addresses of your referees, the GIAC will send your referees an e-mail asking them to submit a letter of reference for you online. Make sure their e-mail accounts are valid, for a faulty e-mail address or full mailbox will delay and possibly stop the processing of your application.
Please note that if you are submitting more than the minimum three recommendations, you have to first complete and submit the entire Apply Texas Grad School Application Form. Then, after you receive your UTEID, you will be instructed how to log back on to check your application status. Your application status check will permit you to submit your additional references by entering their names and e-mail addresses, just as you did when completing the Apply Texas Form.
We strongly suggest you mail your application materials to GIAC at least one month prior to the deadline to ensure the timely processing of your application.
