Internet Relay Chat
Internet Relay Chat (IRC) is a form of real-time Internet chat or synchronous conferencing. It best accommodates a many-to-many communication needs via channels while offering one-to-one communication in the form of private messages. The ECE department maintains an IRC implementation, which is available to all of the Internet.
The department's IRC service requires SSL endpoint encryption for all connecting clients. This ensures the securing of all IRC traffic between clients and the server.
Connecting
There are many Jabber clients available for various platforms. ECE-IT recommends irssi for the text-based console hounds or X-Chat for the graphical-user interface-inclined.
