ECE Laptop Initiative
The ECE Laptop Initiative allows students, faculty, and staff to purchase a laptop from HP's website at a discounted price. There are currently two laptop and one Tablet PC configurations available. Individuals purchasing a laptop through the ECE Laptop Initiative will be able to use the ECE IT Helpdesk for hardware support and some software support. The term "user" is used to refer to individuals participating in the ECE Laptop Initiative.
Buy a laptop from HP (UT EID required)
Loaner Program
Users seeking laptop support from the ECE IT Helpdesk will be able to check out a 'loaner' laptop while his/her laptop is being serviced. The loaner laptop must be returned when the user picks up his/her laptop.
Backups
It is the responsibility of the user to back up his/her files before requesting service. The ECE IT helpdesk will make every effort to back up or recover any files from the laptop being serviced. Any data that needs to be backed up must be in a folder labeled "Backup." This folder should reside on the desktop. The ECE IT Helpdesk IS NOT RESPONSIBLE for any lost files or data.
Hardware Support
Users requesting hardware support must drop their laptop off at the ECE IT Helpdesk. The ECE IT Helpdesk will coordinate with HP to fix any hardware issues the laptop may have. All laptops purchased through the ECE Laptop Initiative come with a 3 year accidental warranty. This means all hardware is covered whether it is a manufacturer defect or broken by the user.
Software Support
Users may choose to keep the factory software configuration. Users choosing to use the default configuration may drop off their laptops to have software packages available through Bevoware installed.
Users choosing not to keep the factory software configuration may have an ECE IT configured image installed. This image will include the operating system, Bevoware software packages, and software that is included with the laptop.
Under no circumstance will the ECE IT Helpdesk install, troubleshoot, or support software packages other than the operating system, Bevoware software packages, or software that is included with the laptop.
