taschProfessor Tasch Wins 2001 Andrew S. Grove Award
Dr. Al Tasch, Jr., holder of the Cockrell Family Regents Chair, received the award “for his contributions to MOS technology, ion implantation and device modeling.” For the last 12 years, Tasch and his students have developed software that predicts the best mix of basic elements with silicon to modify the silicon’s electrical properties and achieve optimum circuit performance.

Dr. Robert Heath, Jr.New Professor Starts New Research Group

Dr. Robert W. Heath Jr., formerly of Stanford, is the director of the new Wireless Systems Innovations Lab. The WSIL uses analytical tools, simulation techniques, and prototyping to investigate a number of technical challenges in the engineering of future wireless systems.

IEEE Membership Drive
The IEEE - UT chapter sponsors speakers from various technology related areas and events like the Fajita Fest in March. Information about the IEEE is available this week from 10:00 - 4:00 in the ENS lobby or on the IEEE website.

Dr. Nur ToubaDr. Lizy JohnLizy John and Nur Touba Win EFF Awards

Drs. John and Touba both received 2001/2002 Engineering Foundation Faculty Excellence Awards. These awards recognize faculty who have excelled in overall program development, teaching excellence, research leadership, graduate student program development, administration, and student advising.

Dr. Yale PattDr. Yale Patt Wins 2002 Texas Excellence Teaching Award

The Texas Exes sponsor these awards which are given to one outstanding professor and graduate instructor in each school and college. The 2002 Texas Excellence Teaching Awards presentation will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2002 at 5:30 p.m at the Etter - Harbin Alumni Center.

The ECE department awarded its most prestigious honor to Dr. Archie Holmes for his enthusiasm and dedication to his students' success. Dr. Holmes' classes are highly interactive and designed to challenge and inspire.

The ECE department hosted a dinner for the Visiting Committee which also honored distinguished professors: Lee Baker, Al Tasch, Chuck Roth, Skeet Smith, Ian Thomas, and Elmer Hixson.
