Forbes Magazine Most Innovative Cities

“Turns out everything really is bigger in Texas. Including the brains,” states Forbes magazine in its list of most innovative cities. Austin, Texas ranks No. 2 on the list of most innovative cities, behind San Jose. Austin residents patented 2,900 ideas over the last year, the second-most per-capita of any metro area in the U.S. That’s 1.7 patents for every thousand residents. The article credits The University of Texas's Cockrell School of Engineering and IBM as two of the city’s “secret weapons in the innovation race.”

Forbes goes on to note that the Cockrell School graduates over 1,000 undergraduates, creating nexus of quality and quantity that even higher-ranked schools cannot match.
