UT ECE Undergrads Win IET Around the World Competition

For the second year in a row UT ECE has won first place in the local Present Around the World competition sponsored by IET, The Institution of Engineering and Technology (the British equivalent of IEEE). The competition provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate their presentation skills and be recognized by this organization. UT ECE competed against two other schools, Texas A&M and the University of Houston. The talks are limited to 10 minutes, and judged 75% on presentation skills and 25% on technical content. The winning presentation was the senior lab project Motorized Motion Control Display and was presented by Chris Koelling. The other team members were Edward Wang and Sarathi Sathasivan. The TA Mentor for the project was Tejas Ganapathi.

Chris now goes to Boston for the next level of competition (Regional) in September, and the winner there goes to the world competition in London.

Two other excellent UT ECE senior lab projects also competed:

Music Suit, presented by Brian Bonnet with team members Jonathan Lim, Luis Pantoja, Marcelo Quijano, and Joshua Sayers. The TA Mentor for this project was Travis Forbes.

Project Blox, presented by Ankita Kaul, with team members Dan Clearly, Jesse Tannahill, and Zach Wasson. The Faculty Mentor for this project was Prof. Christine Julian.

The competition was held on May 19, 2011 at the University of Houston.
