EE 464 Senior Design Winners Announced

The EE 464 Senior Design Contest winners were recently awarded by Prof. Michael Becker. First place went to the Project BLOX team of Daniel Cleary, Ankita Kaul, Jesse Tannahill and Zachariah Wasson. Congratulations to all the participants for putting on a great open house.

Janice Williams and Matthew Halpern Win Cockrell Awards

Janice Williams, ECE Senior Academic Advisor, is the recipient of the 2010 Cockrell School of Engineering Outstanding FIG Facilitator. Janice has served as an ECE “Squared for Success” FIG facilitator for nearly 7 years and loves the opportunity to connect with our newest members to our department.


UT ECE Students Win David and Ruth Beer Endowments for Student Excellence in Technical Communication

Six UT ECE students have been awarded the first annual David and Ruth Beer Endowments for Student Excellence in Technical Communication. Students in EE 333T were recognized for demonstrating excellence in professional written and spoken communication in electrical and computer engineering.

The winners for 2010 were recognized by Chairman Tewfik, Dr. Beer and Prof. Mark Carpenter. They are:

Prof. Bank Attends 22nd Annual Kavli Frontiers of Science Symposium

UT ECE professor Seth Bank recently attended the 22nd Annual Kavli Frontiers of Science Symposium put on by the National Academy of Sciences and the Kavli Foundation. Since 1989, the Academy has organized annual symposia on Frontiers of Science. These symposia bring together some the very best young scientists to discuss exciting advances and opportunities in their fields in a format that encourages informal collective as well as one-on-one discussions among participants.


Inventor of Ethernet and Venture Capital Executive Bob Metcalfe to Lead Innovation Initiatives at UT ECE

Dr. Robert M. Metcalfe, an icon of entrepreneurial engineering and inventor of today's local-area networking standard, Ethernet, has been selected to lead innovation initiatives at The University of Texas at Austin Cockrell School of Engineering.

Metcalfe will be professor of innovation, fellow of the Clint W. Murchison, Sr. Chair of Free Enterprise and professor of electrical and computer engineering. He begins his appointment in January 2011.


WNCG Professors Receive $900,000 Intel and Cisco Video Grant Award

UT ECE Professors Robert W. Heath Jr., Jeffrey G. Andrews, Alan Bovik, Constantine Caramanis, and Gustavo de Veciana were selected to receive a $900,000 gift over three years from Intel and Cisco to develop novel algorithms for Perceptual Optimization of Wireless Video Networks.
