Abstract

What does IBM Research envision the future of computing paradigms and technologies for the next one to two decades? We see a future in which advances in technology will enable a new class of computation systems, architected with people as an integral and central element of the process, to seamlessly enhance human cognition for better outcomes and a better life. We will go beyond increased storage, better search, and more complex analytics to systems that enable innovation and ingenuity. This talk will lay out the trends and vision for these "Frontiers of IT."

Speaker Biography

Dr. Kevin J. Nowka is Director of IBM Research – Austin, one of IBM’s nine global research laboratories. He leads a team of scientists and engineers engaged in research in power-efficient systems and datacenters, system modeling , workload-optimized computing systems , high-speed and power-efficient VLSI circuits, productivity enhancing design automation tools, and the measurement and modeling of the complex interactions between the design and the manufacture of integrated circuits.

Dr. Nowka received a Ph.D in Electical Engineering from Stanford University in 1995. He has over 70 issued patents and has published over 70 technical papers on high-performance and low-power circuits, processor design, and technology issues. He is an IBM Research Master Inventor and a member of the IBM Academy of Technology.
