Texas is among the leading states that are most quickly embracing renewable energy. As it champions the use of "clean" energy, significant environmental and economic benefits of renewables have been realized within Texas. This talk will present a high-level overview of the challenges encountered to reach such a high penetration level of renewable generation at ERCOT. These challenges are also complicated by the high-dimensional problem spaces unavoidable for a bulk power system and very strict computational time requirement demanded for real-time applications.

Wed Apr 25 Open House The Spring 2018 Texas ECE Capstone Design Showcase will feature demonstrations of senior capstone projects and provide you with the opportunity to mix and mingle with faculty and students of a top ten ranked department in the new building. A photo gallery of the team projects and winners will be posted to our website after the event. 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM EER 0.700 (Commons) |
Wed Apr 25 Seminar In computer science, time and space are the classical measures of the performance of an algorithm. But modern computing systems, both today and in the future, are equally if not more limited by physical constraints imposed on the energy, power, and reliability of their components. So, what happens to algorithm design when we consider these factors? 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM EER 3.646 |
Wed Apr 25 Workshop ECE graduate students are invited to join the department and a representative from the Counseling and Mental Health Center to learn tips about well-being and stress reduction. 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM EER 0.824 |
Tue May 01 Connect It's the last week of classes before final exams. Representatives from National Instruments invite you to take a break from studying and grab some refreshments! Chat with NI and learn about NIWeek 2018, May 21 - 24 at the Austin Convention Center! Learn more at Reach the Future Faster. 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM EER 2nd Floor Lobby |
Wed May 02 ECE Colloquia Seminar The feasible region plays a fundamental role in solving optimal power flow (OPF) problems. OPF solutions do not exist if the corresponding feasible region is an empty set. Any solution algorithm proposed for solving OPF problems will fail if the feasible region does not exist. In addition, the geometry and characteristics of feasible region indeed affect the performance of OPF solution methods. In this talk, a complete characterization of the feasible region of OPF problems will be presented. 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM EER 1.518 |
Thu May 03 Special Event ECE graduate students, faculty, and staff are invited to this monthly social. This month's event will be cohosted by Ericsson. Socialize over refreshments from 5 - 6 and learn about Advanced 5G ASIC Development for Ericsson Radio Systems from 6 - 7. 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM EER 3.646 |
Wed May 30 Special Event You and your colleagues are cordially invited to this inaugural event that I hope will become an annual tradition in the future. In this student organized annual symposium, industry thought leaders and university researchers will interact with each other through a number of oral sessions as well as a poster session. Session 1: Industry Plenary Session 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM J.J. Pickle Research Campus, Bldg 205 |
