The Chandra Family Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is committed to training and educating students from secondary school up to graduate school.
Workforce Development
Texas ECE Next
3rd and 4th Year - This yearlong series of workshops and mentoring activities for sophomores, juniors and seniors is aimed at providing mentoring and support for undergraduates interested in graduate education. Attendees include Texas ECE and non-UT undergraduate students from across the state of Texas. The professional development workshops will provide the support and self-efficacy tools that students may find useful to move forward from undergraduate to graduate school, while involved in summer undergraduate research in the process.
Student Success
Texas ECE 1st Gen
1st Year - The First Generation Electrical and Computer Engineering Mentorship Program (1st-Gen ECE) is designed to support first-generation ECE students by fostering interpersonal connections and providing guidance through monthly seminar-style events. These events cover topics such as networking, career development, research opportunities, study skills, and time management. The program aims to create a supportive community where students can share experiences, build confidence, and develop essential skills.
Texas ECE Amplify
2nd Year - The program aims to build a community among second-year ECE students, offering guidance on navigating their coursework and fostering professional development. The program features 20 group mentoring pods each semester. Each pod consists of five second-year students and one upper-year peer mentor. Faculty and alumni also participate in the pods.
Texas ECE Talent
1st through 4th Year - The program provides students with educational tools that contribute to increased retention, attrition, and graduation rates by partnering academic advisors with ECE students who want to improve their Grade Point Averages and strengthen engineering identity. TALENT connects students to valuable resources through the department, the Cockrell School of Engineering and The University of Texas at Austin.
Texas ECE Partners
1st Year Graduate - The program is designed to support MS and PhD students by fostering interpersonal connections and social-emotional support for newly enrolled graduate students. The program is intended to promote a culture of mentoring and complement existing academic advising and research supervision. Each small group or pod is comprised of five first-year MS and PhD mentees, two advanced graduate student peer mentors, and one faculty mentor.
Student Outreach
Edison Lecture Series
K-12 - The Edison Lecture Series is an interactive STEM learning experience that engages middle and high school students with the fun side of electrical and computer engineering. Edison attendees learn the fundamentals of an engineering topic through a university-style lecture, then see these concepts come to life through hands-on demos. Be part of the excitement!
