Introducing the New Texas ECE Faculty Members

Texas ECE will welcome nine new faculty members in the 2019-2020 academic year. The department welcomes five new faculty members beginning in Fall 2019, and we will welcome a new department chair and three additional new faculty members in Spring 2020.

The new faculty members are profiled below:

 

Beginning Fall 2019

Prof Alex Hanson

Alex Hanson will begin as an assistant professor in Fall 2019. He comes to us from MIT. His area of expertise is power electronics with emphasis on high-frequency magnetics and circuits.

 

Prof. José del R. Millán

Prof. Millán joins Texas ECE in Fall 2019 from École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) where he has been a prestigious leader in the field of brain-machine interfaces.

 

Prof. Aryan Mokhtari

Aryan Mokhtari joins Texas ECE as an assistant professor. He was most recently a Postdoctoral Associate in the Laboratory for Information and Decision Systems (LIDS) at MIT. His area od expertise is in optimization and machine learning.

 

Prof. Emily Porter

Emily Porter joins Texas ECE in Fall 2019 as an assistant professor. She was EU Marie-Curie Fellow and Adjunct Lecturer with the Translational Medical Device Laboratory at the National University of Ireland Galway. Her area of expertise is in electromagnetics and healthcare applications.

 

Prof. Shyam Shankar

Shyam Shankar joins Texas ECE in Fall 2019 as an assistant professor. Most recently he was a Research Scientist in the Applied Physics department at Yale University. His area of expertise is in quantum information science and engineering.

 

Beginning Spring 2020

Prof. Hyeji Kim

Hyeji Kim joins Texas ECE in Spring 2020 as an assistant professor. Most recently she has serve as a Researcher at Samsung AI Research Cambridge in the United Kingdom. Her area of expertise is in information theory and machine learning.

 

Prof. Diana Marculescu

Diana Marculescu will be joining Texas ECE as the new department chair beginning in December 2019. Prof. Marculescu was the David Edward Schramm Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University.

Prof. Radu Marculescu

Radu Marculescu will be joining Texas ECE as a professor in Spring 2020. He is the Kavčić-Moura Professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University where he is an expert in the optimization of embedded systems, cyber-physical systems, social networks, and biological systems.

 

Prof. Jon Tamir

Jon Tamir will be joining Texas ECE as an assistant professor in Spring 2020. Currently he is a research associate at the University of California, Berkeley. His research centers around computational magnetic resonance imaging, machine learning for inverse problems, and clinical translation.
