Xiaoyu Niu Gives TEDxAustin Talk on Directional Sound

TedX

What if sound could be directional, like a laser, rather than omnidirectional like a light bulb? Longhorn dreamers are pioneering the revolutionary audio experience. Xiaoyu Niu received his B.S. degree in Underwater Acoustics from the Ocean University of China, Qingdao, China, in 2019. He studied at the Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, supervised by Dr. Xiaodong Li until 2020. He is currently a Ph.D. student of the Chandra Department of Electrical and Computer Engineer at the University of Texas at Austin. He works in UT Acoustic MEMS Lab advised by Dr. Neal A. Hall. He is also an active member in Texas Acoustics. His passions include various acoustic MEMS devices, like Photonic waveguide microphone, parametric array directional speaker, Carbon Nanotube microphone, etc. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
