Ramesh Yerraballi has been selected to hold a Dad’s Association Centennial Teaching Fellowship during Fall 2017. Established by the University of Texas System Board of Regents in 1983, faculty members considered to the fellowships should be actively engaged in the instruction of freshman undergraduates. This award recognizes Yerraballi’s excellence in teaching and his commitment to undergraduate education. Nina Telang was the last ECE recipient in 2014-2015.

Since 2012, the award has been given annually by the IFIP Working Group 10.4 on Dependable Computing and Fault Tolerance, in honor of the late Jean-Claude Laprie. 

Dan Wasserman has been selected as one of the Distinguished Lecturers of the IEEE Photonic Society for the 2017-18 term. The IEEE Photonics Society Distinguished Lecturer Awards program is designed to honor excellent speakers who have made technical, industrial or entrepreneurial contributions of high quality to the field of lasers and electro-optics, and to enhance the technical programs of Photonics Society chapters. Each Lecturer will give six lectures at IEEE Photonics Society chapters over the course of their appointed term.

Hema Movva will receive the Best Paper Award at the 75th Device Research Conference (DRC), to be held June 25-28 at the University of Notre Dame. The DRC has brought together leading scientists, researchers, and students to share their latest discoveries in device science, technology and modeling for over seven decades. He is being recognized for his work ‘Room-Temperature Gate-Tunable Negative Differential resistance in MoS2/hBN/WSe2 Heterostructures,’ which was co-authored by S. Kang, A. Rai, K. Kim, B. Fallahazad, T. Taniguchi, K. Watanabe, E. Tutuc, and S.K. Banerjee.

Joydeep Ghosh, along with his collaborators and students, were awarded the 2017 Distinguished Clinical Research Informatics Paper Award at the American Medical Informatics Association Joint Summits on Translational Sciences, held March 27-30 in San Francisco California. The award recognizes the paper “PheKnow-Cloud: A Tool of Evaluating High-Throughput Phenotype Candidates Using Online Medical Literature.” The paper provides a machine learning/A.I.

Deji Akinwande, Texas ECE Associate Professor, has received the Friedrich Bessel Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The award is presented to internationally renowned academics from outside Germany in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments in research to date and their exceptional promise for future endeavors.

Prof. Yale Patt of Texas ECE has been named the recipient of the 2017 Friar Centennial Teaching Fellowship (FCTF). The Friar Society, the university’s oldest and most prestigious honor society, awards the Friar Centennial Teaching Fellowship annually to one outstanding undergraduate professor and celebrates excellence in undergraduate teaching.

Prof. Al Bovik has been named the recipient of the 2017 Edwin H. Land Medal awarded by The Optical Society (OSA), co-sponsored by the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T).

Duy-Loan Le is one of four honorees that will be inducted in the 2017 Asian Hall of Fame on Saturday, May 13th in Seattle, WA. The Asian Hall of Fame was founded in 2004 to honor achievement, inspire the next generation, and build the national community of Asian Pacific Americans. 

Jette Henderson and Ryan Bridges have been awarded the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) Distinguished Clinical Research Informatics Award for their work “PheKnow-Cloud: A Tool for Evaluating High-Throughput Phenotype Candidates using Online Medical Literature.”
