UT ECE Announces Dr. Alex Dimakis Will Join Faculty in 2013

UT ECE is pleased to announce the addition of Dr. Alex Dimakis to the UT ECE faculty beginning on January 1, 2013. Alex Dimakis received his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley in 2008 in EECS. He was a post-doc at Caltech from 2008 -2009. Since 2009, he has been a tenure-track Assistant Professor at the University of Southern California. Alex Dimakis’s research focuses on distributed storage for Cloud storage, and more broadly, algorithms for computation and communication in large system distributed systems.

UT ECE Recognizes Staff for Outstanding Service

UT ECE recognized outstanding milestones in the service of the department in a ceremony on Tuesday, May 23rd. The department would like to thank all of our staff celebrating milestones in 2012.

We would also like to recognize Diana Perez, who will be retiring from the department on May 31st after 32 years of service. Diana has played a pivotal role in the success of UT ECE and will be greatly missed. She joined UT ECE in 1980, working with the Undergraduate Advising Office for 18 years before moving to the Chairman's office.

Prof. Seth Bank Research Team Awarded MURI Research Funding

UT ECE professor Seth Bank is part of a research team that recently was awarded funding through the Department of Defense's Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI). According to the Department of Defense, the highly competitive MURI program complements DoD basic research programs that support traditional, single-investigator university research. Multidisciplinary University Research Initiatives incentivize research by multidisciplinary teams through larger and longer awards. Prof.

Profs. Mikhail Belkin and Neal Hall Receive DARPA 2012 Young Faculty Awards

UT ECE professors Mikhail Belkin and Neal Hall have been named recipients of 2012 DARPA Young Faculty Awards. According to DARPA, "The objective of the DARPA Young Faculty Award (YFA) program is to identify and engage rising research stars in junior faculty positions at U.S. academic institutions and expose them to Department of Defense needs as well as DARPA’s program development process.

 

TI Outstanding Student Designer Awards Announced

Four student teams in the EE 382V Data Converter course were awarded Texas Instruments Outstanding Student Designer Awards on May 7th for their excellent performance in the final project. The winners were awarded by Texas Instruments experts Tom Vrotsos, Tim Fischer and Mark McClung. Congratulations to the following winners:
