UT ECE Student Andre Esteva Receives Outstanding Scholar-Leader Award


Professor Miryung Kim of UT ECE was awarded an NSF CAREER award for her work on Analysis and Automation of Systematic Software Modifications. The Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program is a Foundation-wide activity that offers the National Science Foundation's most prestigious awards in support of junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholars through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of education and research within the context of the mission of their organizations.

UT ECE professor Alexis Kwasinski has been named a 2011 recipient of an IBM Faculty Innovation Award. The IBM Innovation Awards is a worldwide program designed to encourage proposals that focus on teaching, research, or community building using key technologies.
Dr. Alexis Kwasinski is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin.

The EE 464 Senior Design Contest winners for Fall 2011 were recently awarded by Prof. Michael Becker at the Senior Design Open House on Tuesday, November 22nd. First place went to the Checkers Solver Android app by Arthur Ishiguro, Farhad Abasov, Kevin Scholz, Alexander Yeah and Jung Hoo Lee. Congratulations to all the participants for putting on a great open house.
UT ECE professor Bob Metcalfe has been awarded the 2011 NEC C&C Prize. The C&C Prize was established in 1985 and is awarded to distinguished persons in recognition of outstanding contributions to R&D activities and pioneering work related to the integration of computers and communications technologies and the social impact of developments in these fields. The foundation noted that “The C&C Prize was awarded to Prof. Abramson and Dr.
UT ECE graduate student John Tatarchuk was selected by the EMERF Board of Directors as the EMERF sponsored student presenter at the SMMA 2011 Fall Technical Conference. He recently completed his MS in electrical engineering (electromagnetism and acoustics specialty) in Austin after receiving a dual BS in electrical engineering and wireless engineering from Auburn in 2009.
UT ECE professor Jacob Abraham has been named the 2011 recipient of the Billy and Claude R. Hocott Distinguished Centennial Engineering Research Award from the Cockrell School of Engineering. The objective of the award is to recognize faculty members who have made significant contributions in furthering the profession of engineering through documented research conducted while associated with The University of Texas at Austin.
UT ECE professor Prof. Andrea Alù has been named as a recipient of a 2011 Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) Young Investigator Award. DTRA is the U.S. Department of Defense’s official Combat Support Agency for countering weapons of mass destruction. Under DTRA, DoD resources, expertise and capabilities are combined to ensure the United States remains ready and able to address the present and future WMD threat through combat support, technology development, threat control and threat reduction.
