Profs. Jeffrey Andrews, Alan Bovik, Robert Heath, and Sriram Vishwanath have been included in the Thomson Reuters list of Highly Cited Researchers for 2014. The researchers listed earned this distinction by writing the greatest numbers of reports officially designated by Essential Science Indicators℠ as Highly Cited Papers — ranking among the top 1 percent most cited for their subject field and year of publication.

Ping-Chun Li, a graduate student researcher in Prof. Edward Yu’s group was recently selected as a recipient of a Material Research Society (MRS) Graduate Student Silver Award at the 2014 MRS Spring Meeting in San Francisco, CA. Ping-Chun Li received his award for his presentation titled "Large-Area, Flexible, Wavelength-Selective Three-Dimensional Optical Metasurface."

UT ECE graduate student Xiaohan Li was awarded the best poster award at the 40^th IEEE Photovoltaic Specialists Conference (PVSC) held in Denver, CO, June 8-13, 2014.

Prof. Derek Chiou has been named the recipient of the 2014 IBM Faculty Award. The IBM Faculty Award program is a competitive worldwide program intended to foster collaboration between researchers at leading universities worldwide and those in IBM research, development and services organizations.

Ralph Tanbourgi has been named the recipeint of the best student paper award at the 2014 European Wireless Conference for a paper that he co-authored with Prof. Jeffrey Andrews and UT ECE alumnus Harprett Dhillon.

UT ECE student David Dillen has been awarded a 2014 Intel PhD Fellowhsip. Davis is supervised by Prof. Emanuel Tutuc. The award consists of an educational stipend of $45K and a Research Total Industry Experience (TIE) grant of $5K.

Professor Vijay Janapa Reddi has been invited to participate in the National Academy of Engineering's (NAE) 2014 Indo-America Frontiers of Engineering Symposium (IAFOE). The IAFOE program brings together outstanding, early-career Indian and American engineers from industry, universities, and other research institutions to introduce their areas of engineering research and technical work to facilitate an interdisciplinary transfer of knowledge and methodology that could lead to collaborative networks of engineers from the two countries.

Prof. Seth Bank has been awarded a Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP) Award for his work on "Optical characterization of semiconductors and metal-semiconductor nanocomposites."

UT ECE alumnus Brett Paulson has been named the recipient of the Cockrell School of Engineering Outstanding Young Engineering Graduate Award for 2014. Established in 1991, the Outstanding Young Engineering Graduate Award (OYEG) recognizes rising stars of Cockrell School alumni under the age of 40. Honorees are selected for their early outstanding professional achievements, dedication to public service and support of higher education. Including this year’s honoree, 27 alumni have received this award.
