UT ECE professor Robert W. Heath Jr., on January 1, 2011, will be elevated to IEEE Fellow, the highest grade of IEEE membership. The standard for advancement is "unusual distinction in the profession" and "extraordinary records of accomplishments [that have] significant value to society." Dr. Heath was recognized "for contributions to multiple antenna wireless communications.

Professor Heath's research lies at the intersection of wireless communication, signal processing, and information theory. Current research topics include efficient transmission strategies for single user, multiple user, multiple hop, and multiple cell multiple antenna wireless communication systems, techniques for managing interference, fundamental limits of ad hoc networks, and efficient delivery of video over wireless communication networks.
