R. Gary Daniels—ECE adjunct professor since 1999 and strong friend of ECE since his days as Senior VP at Motorola—was recently named an ECE Fellow for his service to the department. Daniels came to us via the External Advisory Committee, which he chaired. There he tackled operational and educational issues and raised $1M in start-up money to help recruit a senior faculty member. He is also a popular teacher, famous for his first lecture of the semester—an inspirational slide show of his house, boat, and cars. Student say that during their darkest hours the slide show gives them the strength to go on. Gary is one of those guys I know I can count on, no matter what, says Chairman Tony Ambler. He's generous with his time and is an extremely capable person.
