Jon Valvano Wins Best Session Award at CIEC

Prof. Jon Valvano has received the Best Session Award at the American Society for Engineering Eductaion (ASEE) Conference for Industry and Education Collaboration (CIEC) that took place from February 4-6, 2015 in Palm Springs. The Best Session Award is given to "the session presenter based upon evaluations of the session by peers and colleagues." Prof. Valvano won for his session on how Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) can be a method for industry to retrain their work force. Prof. Valvano, along with Prof. Ramesh Yerraballi, leads the "Embedded Systems - Shape the World" MOOC for UT ECE. The course uses a bottom-up approach to problem solving, building gradually from simple interfacing of switches and LEDs to complex concepts like display drivers, digital to analog conversion, generation of sound, analog to digital conversion, graphics, interrupts, and communication.
