Alfonso Cuevas

Associate Professor of Instruction

Dr. Alfonso Cuevas is an Associate Professor of Instruction in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Cuevas re-joined the University of Texas at Austin in fall 2015. He was previously an Adjunct Professor for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department from 2001 through 2007. During that tenure he created and taught the, now, EE361R RF Circuit Design course. He received his Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1990, 1985, and 1982, respectively. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE.

Dr. Cuevas founded Diarcy Technologies, an electronic product development company, in 1990 and began working on a full-time basis in 1998 where he still works today. Between 1994 and 1998, Dr. Cuevas was Director of Engineering for Symtx/Symmetrix, an engineering start-up company specializing in test and measurement solutions for emerging electronic products. Between 1983 and 1994, Dr. Cuevas was a microwave/RF engineer for Tracor Aerospace (now BAE Systems). Dr. Cuevas holds two patents and has completed numerous electronic products for his clients and his own company spanning across all electronic disciplines.

Dr. Cuevas' research interests includes all aspects of electronic design, especially sensor technology (RF, ultrasonic, infrared, capacitive, magnetic, etc.). He has interest in IoT (Internet of Things) technology, combing his expertise in RF circuit design with his ability to design very low-current electronic solutions for battery-powered applications.
