Mario Gonzalez is the AT&T Foundation Endowed Professor Emeritus in Engineering in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin.

He has held industry positions with the Boeing Company, Applied Research Laboratories, and Texas Instruments where he participated in a 4,096 element parallel processor design. Most of Dr. Gonzalez's technical work has been in the computer architecture area, emphasizing parallel and distributed systems, performance issues, and finding near-optimal solutions between problem requirements and system architectures.

More recently, he has been working in the general area of information technology, and his teaching interests are now focusing on telecommunications networks and computer engineering courses. He is a member of the Engineering Accreditation Commission, he has participated in graduate program evaluations throughout the U.S. and many Latin American countries, and he has been a member of several boards including the Texas Department of Information Resources and the College Board.
