Mircea Driga

Retired Professor

Dr. Mircea D. Driga is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. He came to The University of Texas as a Senior Fulbright Scholar and Fulbright Visiting Professor under the Fulbright Hays Act.

Dr. Driga performed research as Chief Scientist for the Center for Electromechanics from 1985 to 1990 and as Chief Scientist for the Institute for Advanced Technology from 1990 to 1994. He is a co-author of the original patent of the compulsator and of the two subsequent patents on compulsators.

He holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kentucky. For four years, he was on leave of absence from UT as a Visiting Professor and scientist with the Institute for Technology and Research, Polytechnical Institute of Sao Paulo, and the University of Campinas in Brazil. Dr. Driga is a specialist in Advanced Electromagnetic Field Theory and its applications in electromechanical energy conversion devices, electromagnetic levitation, manufacturing of advanced microelectronic devices, intelligent robotics, and pulsed power technology in relation to electromagnetic macroparticle accelerators and industrial applications.

As a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, Dr. Driga teaches graduate courses in Advanced Electromagnetic Field Theory, Intelligent Robotics, Intelligent Motion for Robotics and Control, as well as undergraduate courses in Electromagnetics. He supervises Ph.D. and Masters-level students in Electromagnetics, Energy Systems, and Manufacturing Areas. Dr. Driga has over 180 publications, is the author or co-author of 10 patents of invention, and has consulted extensively for the U. S. Government and private companies, in the areas of electromagnetic electromechanics, and microelectronics manufacturing, notably for IBM. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE Society.
