The brain controls much of what it means to be human — speech, memory, reasoning and everything we feel, think and believe. When brain surgery is necessary, the areas that control these crucial functions are often perilously close to the surgical site.

For decades, researchers around the world have searched for ways to use solar power to generate the key reaction for producing hydrogen as a clean energy source — splitting water molecules to form hydrogen and oxygen. However, such efforts have mostly failed because doing it well was too costly, and trying to do it at a low cost led to poor performance.

Teaming up with industry titans including Samsung, NVIDIA, and more, researchers at The University of Texas at Austin are launching 6G@UT, a new research center to lay the groundwork for 6G, the next generation of wireless technology.

Texas ECE PhD student Ahmet Budak has been selected by Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI) to receive the 2021 Outstanding Student Designer Award. The award is presented annually by ADI at the IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC). Since 1997, this award has recognized excellence in system-level integrated circuit architectures or in analog, mixed-signal, or digital integrated circuit design.

Four student teams in Prof. Jaydeep Kulkarni’s “Semiconductor Memories” graduate course won the inaugural Micron Outstanding Semiconductor Memory Design Contest for their excellent performance in the final class project.
