The award recognizes the paper titled, ‘Multi-Type Activity Recognition in Robot-Centric Scenario’, which he co-authored with Dr. Ilaria Gori, Dr. Larry Matthies, and Dr. Michael  Ryoo.

Prof. Milos Gligoric has received a grant under the National Science Foundation’s Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Research Initiation Initiative (CRII) program.

Texas ECE graduate student Ahmed Kord received the 2016 Qualcomm Innovation fellowship for his project titled, ‘Fully-Integrated Reconfigurable Magnet-less Non-reciprocal Components for Next-Generation Wireless Communication Systems’, in collaboration with Columbia University.

Narae Yoon, an incoming Texas ECE PhD student has been awarded the Semiconductor Research Corporation’s (SRC) Company-Named Fellowship in partnership with Intel Corporation. Narae will be starting her first semester as a doctoral student at The University of Texas at Austin’s ECE department in Fall 2016 under the mentorship of Prof. Daniel Wasserman.

Prof. Yale Patt was recently featured in a Daily Texan article in recognition of being the recipient of the Benjamin Franklin Medal by the Franklin Institute in April.

Texas ECE announced the winners of the Spring 2016 Senior Design program while celebrating graduates at the 2016 Graduate Reception on Monday, May 9, 2016 in the Texas Union Ballroom. 

Texas ECE PhD students Wooseok Lee and Dinesh Jayaraman have been named recipients of 2016-2017 Samsung PhD Fellowships.

Prof. Robert Heath is part of a team that was selected as one of three finalists for the prestigious European Inventor Award in the Non-European Countries category. Robert was part of the team led by his PhD advisor Prof. Arogyaswami Paulraj of Stanford University that was recognized for its contributions to Faster Wireless Connectivity (MIMO).  Robert and his team are in very good company: another finalist this year is Bob Langer, MIT, who is well-known for his contributions to  biotechnology and for arguably being the most successful serial academic entrepreneur.

Prof. Al Bovik and his former student Rajiv Soundararajan have been named recipients of the IEEE Circuits and Systems for Video Technology Best Paper Award for 2016. The award recognizes their 2013 paper “Video Quality Assessment by Reduced Reference Spatio-Temporal Entropic Differencing,”  which appeared in the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology in April 2013.

Kerry’s visit to UT Austin’s J.J. Pickle Research Campus came a week after he signed a global agreement at the United Nations to reduce greenhouse gases and curb global warming.
